Low performance on Linux

Hi.
First of all, thanks for this great game.

I bought it on Steam few days ago and was playing just fine, except of animation performance, which is really annoying.
The game runs at very low FPS. From the looks of it, I'd say it's 10-15 fps. Map scroll, inventory items drag, weather effects (rain etc.) pop-up item descriptions (when following cursor) - all is choppy, not smooth. Only cursor itself is smooth. Although interface responsivity is overall good (buttons press, menu switching with no lag). Changing fps limit gives nothing. It's the same with 10 or 60 limit. This thing becomes very annoying after 20 mins of play. My eyes are struggling.

My specs are:

Athlon64 3000+
1GB ram
GeForce 9600gso 768mB ram (latest proprietary driver is working well)
Monitor 1920x1080
ArchLinux
Openbox without any composite manager. Very light and fast system.

CPU frequency scaling is turned off, It's running at full capacity all the time

Game itself uses about 500MB of ram, cpu load 80%

At first glance I thought this is normal behavior and is not critical, as game experience doesn't depend on fps here. But then I saw few "letsplays" on youtube (including Ubuntu), and in those videos ingame animations are perfectly smooth and game looks significantly more pleasing because of that.

I tried different ways to tweak the system and flash as well (though there isn't too many ways to do it for flashplayer), enabled/disabled flash acceleration, changed game's NICE level etc.

Most framerate drop I get when UI is set to AUTO and is switching to full scale level (i.e. when I maximize game window or go fullscreen) Stretching and filtering are disabled

Framerate overall is low but stable. Doesn't depend on what is showing on screen.
Demo version through Firefox shows the same results.

Maybe you can advise me some tweaks?
Or maybe I just don't understang some obvious thing.

I understand that my specs are pretty old, but I played many games with no problem, such as Amnesia, Don't starve, Fallout3 and many other 2d old games.

Shoes disappear so much, and dogs spawn annoyingly in new Beta

Hi, trying the new beta release, i found a terrible issue (at least imho) with shoes:
The bad ones of course don't last more than a couple of turns, which i understand, but the old good ones tend to be lost so quickly! Wouldn't be better to just degrade them until they are destroyed? Furthermore, i understood shoe soles were created when the shoes were lost or destroyed? For me and for the moment no sole was created when any sort of shoe was destroyed or lost. I find that quite broken in disadvantage to player, as it is quite difficult to last some turns with proper shoes.

And related to dogs:
A) they are so easy food and hide (fur trapper) that there is no longer need to go hunting deers or squirrels.
B) they spawn so frequently that they are quite boring after you kill them a couple of times.

Regards and remember the biclycle and motorcycle helmets and thermal waters i suggested in other post :-)

Attacking the Dead (Mainly Dogmen)

This is just a glitch where ill attack a Dogman and it'll recive "Died of Cardiac Arrest" status and then the fight continues until the next time I act. I meanits nothing Game-Breaking but I thought that it would help you out to know this.

Feral Dog "faction" error?

I was just poking through the code while working on a new mod, and was trying to find the new "faction" for Feral Dogs when I noticed they are set to "Faction 14"... but there is NO "Faction 14" set under "Factions" (last one is 13, Martha's Army).

Is this supposed to be the case? This is my first time looking at how factions work, so I'm a bit confused seeing this. I'm only asking because I'm encountering a bug with my WIP mod, and suspect this might be the cause since I'm calling on "Faction 14".

Notebook pad doenst work right with the game. (giant behemoth anoing bug)

Actually, when i lay on my bed and go play with my notebook, i have one problem.

Using the pad i need to from example, eat some berries with the right mouse button MENU, because holding 2 and just clicking with the left doenst work.

Sorry if its hard to understand, just ask me for another way to explain if needed.
I would really like to see this to be repaired, love to play before sleeping.

For whatever reason, King Elias has already spawned, before the PC has been to the Saginaw Mental Institution. I'm nowhere near the Saginaw, either. I saw him about three tiles north of the Cryo Facility. He looked like King Elias, and the mouseover said he was King Elias, but since I never engaged in combat he could have just been a random Blue Frog with a wrong nametag.

Meat doesn't degrade in Room 17?

Hi, Philip managed to store some roasted and cured food into room 17 (no repairs there, crude Room 17). I travelled wide map (Camp Grailing, Detroit, some wandering around) and when returned found that all the meat was in good condition! Not sure if the condition was the same or not as i left, but none was spoiled! And i think i spent easy 15 days out. It is nominal or it is a bug?

Hi,

While staying at my camp in the cryo facility, I was trying to craft/add a strap and a scope to a .308 rifle. Because the space in my camp site and the space in the hex field was full (at least the items were sorted in a way that I could not place a rifle there), a message showed up telling me that I have no space to place the crafted/upgraded rifle. After reading that, I clicked on the "next page" icon which brought me to page two of my crafteable items. After doing that, the message suddenly disappeared, and I was able to craft the rifle. Problem is that it disappeared after having successfully crafted it.

- it wasn't on the campsite, hex-field, shoulder or in any container that I possessed (I don't thin there is a container that is large enough to hold a rifle)
- I did not get back any of the items used to craft the gun (scope, strap, etc).

Don't know if something like this was already reported?

Still, great game, congratulations on reaching 1.0 =)

PS: Is it possible to use my (newly created) save game from 0.9961b in the final release version?


v1.0 Bug (HUGE letters on night vision when crafting or scavenging)

Pretty much that, now the night vision trait (implant) takes the size of a cleaver in the crafting area or scavenging menu or any other place.

I'm using Steam autoupdated from last version to 1.0, it wasn't happening before and now I'm scared it may screw my save after looting and selling all that stuff to get my eye implants ;_;

invisible pants

I put on a pair of beige pants and they were invisible on my character. He looked like he had no pants, but the pockets still worked. putting on a new pair made them visible but the invisible pair turned invisible when I put them back on.

Stoat loot bug?

I just got notified of a bug that I can't seem to be able to fix. The weirdest thing about it is that my mod doesn't touch any of the code related to it.

It's about the orange/black boxes you get from Stoat. Instead of either of them, I'm getting a number of random stuff like ammo, cardboard boxes, shoes, plastic bags, etc.

I've checked their treasure tables (115 and 116) and encounters and all seems to be in order. I have no idea what could be causing it.

Doesn't stay fullscreen.

Hi,

I have a problem with the Mac version. When I set the game to fullscreen it doesn't stay fullscreen.

When I start a new game and it changes to the screen where you can choose the abilities it automatically switches to window mode. Then I have to go to the options again to switch it back to fullscreen. It stays fullscreen until I lost a game and the debriefing screen appears. There is the same problem.

I don't know if this problem also exists in the Windows version.

It's not a big problem but it's a bit annoying to fight with the fullscreen button to keep the game fullscreen.

It's the release version. I bought the game from GOG.

Let's start a collection of minor things, so we don't lose track.

1. The balaclava/warm head cover (Condition 526) provides armor for torso instead of head. (Kaaven)

2. There's something wrong with Stoat and the transponder (double posting for reference, though I saw that mentioned before).

3. Minor item duplication at the crafting screen, as seen here (8:51).

4. Saginaw: In the screen where you tell them they need a new King (You stand and stare down the King. "The truth is that the crown is too heavy for....") the text overflows into the choices screen.

5. Saginaw, inflitrating with hiding: After going straight up to talk to Ginny and coming out afterwards, the Saginaw encounter box on is nonreactive, ie. you can't use it anymore and don't get an info screen about not being able to. Similar to the problem Hatter had once.

So, I learned that Neo Scavenger was done with it's development. But will Dan still fix typos and grammar errors?

Here's one: When you get your night vision upgrade, it says:

''The upgrade is primarily a thermoelectric cooling device to....... It won't cause any damage, but it takes some {...} getting used to.''

The word missing there is ''time'', of course.

Save gets deleted if system shuts down unexpectedly.

I have been encountering a glitch in the way of saves completely disappearing if my computer improperly shuts down. This has been happening pretty frequently because of power-outages in my area. Is there any way i can help prevent this from happening? It's pretty discouraging when you get a great build/loot drop and then it just gone.

I bought steam version of game.Actually i dont even know there was a yukon edition.
Some ppl upgrade it to yukon.So i want it too.
TO support you and to get items.
I dont mind postcard stuff =) so its no problem.

Game breaking bug with hauling

This has happened to me a number of times now, I think its caused by exiting while hauling and it loads something wrong when you continue later?

What happens is when you take off or dump the vehicle you become encumbered, and can only move around freely if you continue to haul the vehicle, even if it is loaded down with goods.

So to make it clear: Unburdened when hauling, encumbered to the point of needing to get naked when not.

This has been happening over a number of builds for sometime now.

Sepsis causes blood loss?

[I'm playing this with the Extended NeoScav mod, so this may be a problem outside of the vanilla game, assuming it isn't supposed to be happening]

I started a game with the Strong, Medic, Melee, Hacking, and Botany build. I was getting close to ZZ's when a Looter attacked me with a bow. He shot me in the leg, but I killed him without sustaining any further injury and quickly covered the wound with a clean rag. Later, a Bad Mutha attacks me with a spear. His spear outranged my cleaver but I couldn't outrun the guy, so I decided to stand and fight. To my suprise, he throws his spear from a range of 5, hitting my other leg. After one-shotting him with my cleaver, I cover the other wound too. Later, I notice my immune system going down, so I assumed I had sepsis and began preparing large amounts of tannin tea. Surely enough, I had sepsis, but I noticed another strange thing: By the time Sepsis appeared on my list of conditions, Mild Blood Loss was there too. I double-checked to make sure I had bandaged the wounds and surely enough they were bandaged. My blood supply was draining rapidly, I kept drinking tannin but my immune system continued failing as well.

It the end, it was't even Sepsis that killed me, no, it was having a completely empty blood supply that finished me off.

-Is this supposed to happen?

Bug with disappearing vehicles

I have encountered a bug that I repeated twice (before wising up).

If you drop your vehicle as your first action and the enemy runs before you get to act, your vehicle disappears with all its contents.

That means when you want to chase down some dogs with a vehicle you should drop if before moving onto the enemy hex.

Bug: Item missing from inventory screen, while present in the crafting screen

Only experienced this bug once, but I thought I'd report it anyway :D

Inventory screen (items on the ground) was pretty much full of stuff. I then went into the crafting screen, made a campfire and cooked myself some meat. When I was finished cooking, I went back into the main inventory screen to eat the meat, but it wasn't there! It was clearly visible in the crafting screen though, and even when I destroyed a bunch of items, it didn't appear in the inventory screen. And there didn't seem to be a second page of items on the main inventory screen. Then having made more room by destroying some items, I went back to into the crafting screen and cooked myself some more meat, which appeared in the main inventory screen as normal. So there was 1 piece of cooked meet present in the main inventory screen, but two pieces present in the crafting screen!

Not a major bug, but I guess it would be annoying if this happened when crafting some rarer items, although I'm sure if you made some room, then disassembled the crafted item it would probably appear!

And thanks for the great game, really enjoying it! Best game I've played in a LOOOONG time :D
